About Me

Hello there! Thank you for visiting my blog! πŸ™‚

I’m Lorely, the wife of AJ, the daughter of Gie, V and Rudy. I am the sister of Bev, Jake, Lex, Joel and JZ. I am also THE most loving aunt to Iquo. πŸ™‚ I am a Filipino who loves to cook, eat, laugh, watch TV and post photos on Instagram. I am currently living in Hong Kong with my husband and immediate family. I mostly cook Β just for my husband and sometimes, when there’s a gatheringl, I cook for a bigger crowd consisting of family and friends.

If you want to know more about me, continue reading! πŸ™‚ If you don’t, you can skip several paragraphs hahaha!

My family moved to Hong Kong when I was 7 years old, back then, March and April had temperatures below 5C. Now, after 20 years, it ranges from 16-23C — but who cares about the weather, I know you wanted to read more about me!

Admit it! Hahaha! πŸ˜€

Although we moved here, my mom never stopped cooking Filipino dishes, in fact, she seldom cooks non-Filipino dishes. So when people ask me what I eat at home, I proudly say that we eat Filipino food. When we do eat out, we mostly eat Western, Chinese, Thai and Japanese food. There’s not a lot of Filipino restaurants here, except for Pinoy Express in Silvercord back in the day!

I moved back to the Philippines in 2000 to continue my studies, got married in 2010 and moved to Hong Kong again in 2011 to continue being an IT professional.

Why I love to cook?

It all started when I was 9, my mom made me dice (something like 0.5cm x 0.5cm x 0.5cm) about 2 kilos of boiled hearts and lungs for the Bopis which was to be served at my younger sister’s 1st birthday party. I know how to cook because my mom taught me how. She taught me how to dice boiled hearts and lungs! She taught me how to hold knives, chop vegetables, fry, stir fry — you name it! She even taught me that a secret to a great tasting Caldereta was to marinate the beef in soy sauce and ketchup! She was my very first inspiration to cook good food.

The first few dishes I learned to cook were Sinigang and Beef Steak. When I went back to the Philippines, I learned Chopseuy, Menudo, Nilaga (and a lot more dishes) so I could cook for my family on weekends.

My interest in food blogs started in 2008 when I felt that I’ve been cooking the same food since I was 13. I wanted to learn more about what’s out there. I wanted to cook for my then boyfriend (now my husband) the food he likes and loves. He is actually the reason why I am always inspired to cook! He loves everything I cook — well, except my first attempt to cook adobong pusit!

Why I started a food blog?

Now that I’m all grown up and planning a family of our own, I want to share to the world what traditional Filipino food is. I know we’re not as popular as the Thai and Vietnamese cuisines but I sure hope we get recognized sooner or later. With the influences of the Chinese, Spanish and Southeast Asian countries, you’ll surely like our food. Unless you don’t like onion and garlic..then I don’t know what else to say! Haha! πŸ˜€ We start almost everything by sauteing onion and/or garlic.

I will also be sharing recipes I have found on the web that I have cooked for my husband, families and friends. Let’s also include the many yummy food in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand and wherever else we would travel next.

I am working on my food photography skills because I’m so inspired by my favorite food bloggers! Please excuse my photos for now, I promise they will get better. πŸ™‚

I hope I inspire you to cook too! With the iPhone and Android phones nowadays, searching for recipes on the web is one of the easiest things to do. πŸ™‚ I do that on my way to work or back home, I love foodgawker so much — I hope they’d develop an app for Android already!!! πŸ˜›
